An Unforgettable Event
One summer morning many years ago, when I was an eight-year old boy, I visited an orphanage in Guangzhou for the first time in my life. I went there with my parents. The reason for our visit to the orphanage was to have fun with the lovely children living in there. We brought them a lot of gifts, like comic books, candies, and fruit. We engaged in various activities, such as a blindfold game, a treasure hunting game, singing and dancing. We ended the visit with a song of gratitude to God.
Out of this experience, I learned something valuable. It is about the value of a family. Indeed, a man without a family is like duckweed floating on a stream. What he faces is an uncertain world, in which he may encounter serious losses and feel rootless and overwhelmed with grief and despair. I really owe a great deal to my parents for providing me with not only food and clothing but also warmth and love.
